Lifedrawing
The discipline of Lifedrawing is important to me, I feel I need to keep alive the skill of drawing what I perceive infront of me. The interplay between direct perception and self expression fascinates me, the play between technique/mind and expression/body. I find it much easier to be abstract and draw free form - from feeling rather than form. And yet I appreciate the challenge of lifedrawing and the engagement with form and representation it offers me.
Prints
The monoprints are from A-Level mostly, I include them because I love them. It is a practise I want to return to, but I have only made a few prints this year of the woods near where I live. In 1998 I drew from photographs, this year I drew from memory.
Mixed media/abstract
The last section of Mixed Media stetches reflect my playful, intuitive style of drawing. I often draw/paint out on location, using mud, tracing roots and bark and using the river to drop the paper into. I also experimented with oil and pigment, which made a translucent affect. I found this particularly potent and used a light box to present these works. The colourful abstract stetches are drawing from feeling and the present moment.
